RS232 / SERIAL Data Wedge Software Keyboard and DDE Wedge Solutions
Hardware (DLHW) & Software Keyboard Wedges (DLSW)
The primary advantage of a hardware wedge is that it is simpler to use because it is more like a plug 'n play device. In most cases, just plug it in and you are ready to go.
The Data-Link HW is a hardware keyboard wedge that accepts input from any RS232 device. With the Data-Link HW, you can transfer RS232 data into any PC application that accepts keyboard input. Some of the more common applications include Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and Minitab.
The Data-Link SW is a software keyboard wedge that also accepts input from any RS232 device. With the Data-Link SW, you can transfer RS232 data into any PC application that accepts keyboard input. Some of the more common applications include Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and Minitab.
HARDWARE Features / DLHW:
- Supports any RS232 device.
- Specify rules for defining the input packet (end-of-packet character, gap time or send immediately).
- Remove unwanted characters from the input packet.
- Extract the first numeric field from the input packet.
- Single and continuous read modes.
- Initiate readings with the read switch on the unit, an optional remote read switch or a send button on the serial device.
- Works with serial devices that send continuously.
- Define different commands for each read switch.
- LED to indicate when RS232 data has been received.
- Simple to use Windows setup program to define the software operation.
- Define prefix and/or suffix strings to be included with the wedge output.
- Specify the end-of-packet character to be sent with each data packet.
- All power is obtained from the keyboard cable, no separate AC adapter is required.
- Connect to the PC/laptop via the keyboard input port or to a USB port via an optional USB to PS/2 adapter.
- Serial communications test program included to assist in setup and testing.
Software Wedges:
SOFTWARE DATA-LINK A
- If the data format coming from your serial device is exactly what you want to send to your target application (i.e., you do not need data parsing).
- You are looking for an economical solution for transferring properly formatted serial port data directly into Windows applications.
SOFTWARE DATA-LINK B
- If the data format coming from your serial device needs to be modified before sending the data to your target application (i.e., you need data parsing).
- You need to log date and time with the date collected. This software can automatically add the date and time for every data packet received from the serial device.
- Many serial devices output extra information such as units (pounds, inches, etc.) and you need to remove the units fields before sending the data to your target application.
SOFTWARE Features / DLSW:
Serial Communications
- You can have 2 serial devices connected simultaneously.
- If your computer does not have any physical serial ports, you can easily add 1 or more serial ports with a USB to serial cable.
- Separate parsing schemes can be set up for the data coming from each serial port.
Data Parsing (DATA-LINK B only)
- 5 independent parsing schemes can be created.
- You can specify which input port the scheme will be applied to.
- If a packet contains a unique string, You can select the parsing scheme to be applied to this packet based on the unique string.
DDE
- A more effective way of transferring data to Microsoft Excel.
- Allows the software to maintain the focus so that it is easier to use the built in command buttons and hot keys to send commands to your serial device(s).
Send Commands
- You can specify up to 100 commands.
- You can specify which port(s) are to receive the commands.
- 6 commands can be assigned to the command button on the main window.
- 7 hot keys can be assigned to any of your commands (F2 to F8).
- Specify number of times the command will be repeated.
- Specify delays within commands.
